Nothing should hold you back from being productive and achieving your dreams.

On September 18, 2017, Pulse published the story of a blind shoe mender by the name of Endurance Otobi.

The article 'A story of how Endurance Otobi defied the odds', tells the story of a man who wasn't born blind. Otobi's blindness hasn't stopped him from making something out of himself. He could easily have been a beggar but instead, he chose to work.

In this video interview, his mother told him to beg but he refused to do so. He later went to the School of the Blind in Oshodi. It was at this place he learnt a craft. In 2010 he finished at the school and began his shoe craft.

Otobi's story is about resilience. He never gave up. When the world told him to give up, he said no and continued moving on. Today he is a productive member of the society.

There are people out there who don't have any disability but who life has dealt them a few unfair cards. These people find it too easy to give up and sulk in the corner.

There are many able-bodied young Nigerians out there roaming the streets and blaming the government for their predicament. They sit back and complain about the state of the country all day. They would rather groan than find work.

No one ever said life was going to be easy. Pardon the cliché, but life is not a bed roses. We all have our challenges. People without disabilities also have challenges. Disabilities or not, you have no excuse for not living a productive life.

Even if the government isn't playing its role and you do not come from a wealthy, these still aren't excuses to sit down and do nothing. There will always be obstacles in life, what matters most is how we overcome them. The most successful people in life are the ones who overcome obstacles and not the ones who run away from them.

The story of  Endurance Otobi is proof that even with a disability it is still possible to do something productive. Begging is not the way out neither is grumbling about the state of things.

If a blind man could make something out of his life, then what's your excuse?
