This female bank manager, Beatrice Nwana, will cool her heels in prison for stealing

A senior manager with a new generation bank in Lagos has been remanded in prison for stealing the sum of N8 million.

An Igbosere Magistrate Court sitting in Lagos State has ordered that a senior manager with Access Bank Plc, Ladipo Branch, Mushin, Beatrice Nwana, be remanded in prison custody for allegedly conniving with a spare parts dealer to defraud a victim of the sum of $40,000, equivalent to N8, 240,000.

PM Express reports that the 33-year-old Nwana had connived with Okwudili Onyetube, a trader in Oyingbo Market to defraud one Obinna Ezenwata of the money under false pretense.

It was gathered that Nwana, a native of Anambra State, alongside her accomplice, was arrested by the operatives of the Federal Criminal Investigation and intelligent department, FCIID, Alagbon, Ikoyi, following a petition written against them by the victim.

The two accused were arraigned on a four-count charge of felony to wit, obtaining money under false pretense and stealing.

The police prosecutor, DSP Henry Obiazi, informed the court presided by Chief Magistrate O.A Komolafe, that the accused persons committed the alleged offence in February 2015, in the Okota area of the state, after they collected the said sum from the complainant with a promise to exchange it for the Naira equivalent, but failed to provide the Naira equivalent to the victim, instead converting the money to their personal use.

DSP Obiazi said that when all efforts by the complainant to retrieve his money from the accused persons since 2015 proved futile, he reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the accused persons.

When the charges were read to the accused, they both pleaded not guilty and Chief Magistrate Komolafe granted them bail in the sum of N3 million each with two sureties in like sum.

Magistrate Komolafe, however, ordered that Nwana and Onyetube be remanded in the Kirikiri and Ikoyi Prisons respectively pending when they will be able to fulfill their bail conditions, while the case was adjourned until September 19, 2017, for a mention.
