In Ekiti: 4 remanded in prison for alleged murder

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Bankole Olasunkanmi, told court that the accused people committed the offence on May 6 in Odo-Owa, Ekiti.

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered the remand of four people for alleged murder.

They are Rashidat Abdul, 37, Oluwatosin Akarikiri, 32, Abdulrasheed Mutairu, 22, and Iyoriobhle Fromoina, 18.

All the accused are from Odo-Owa Ekiti in Ekiti State.

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Bankole Olasunkanmi, told court that the accused people committed the offence on May 6 in Odo-Owa, Ekiti.

He alleged that the four people conspired among themselves to murder one Samuel Olayode.

Olasunkanmi explained that t‎he four people had lodged in a hotel belonging to Olayode and later left the hotel suddenly travelled out.

The prosecutor said that after they left the hotel, neighbours started perceiving an odour from the hotel, which turned out to be oozing from the dead body of Olayode.

He said that an autopsy conducted by the police showed that Olayode was strangled to death.

Olasunkanmi alleged that the accused people had committed an offence, punishable under Section 320 and 319 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor applied for adjournment to enable him to duplicate the case file and send it to the Ekiti State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

The pleas of the accused were not taken.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Idowu Ayenimo, ordered that the accused people should be remanded in prison custody until a legal advice was received from the DPP.

He adjourned the case to June 21 for mention.
