A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Aliyu Yusuf, to two months imprisonment for stealing a tricycle battery.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict N10,000 option of fine.
Sadiq warned him to desist from committing crimes, adding that the sentence would serve as deterrent to other would be offenders.
Yusuf, a resident of Tipper Garage, 3rd Avenue Gwarimpa, Abuja, was convicted on a count charge of theft.
The convict prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, adding that he wanted to use the battery to replace his own that was stolen.
Prosecutor Florence Auhioboh, had told the court that one Bashir Yusuf of same address with the convict, reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station, on May 11.
Auhioboh said that the complainant said the convict stole his tricycle battery valued at N20, 000.
During police investigation, he confessed to the crime and the battery was recovered.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.
