The prosecutor said that the convicts intentionally attempted to burgle a customer’s car at Utako market and were caught in the act.
Two men- Musa Abubakar, and Abbah Ibrahin, were on Wednesday sentenced to three months imprisonment each by a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, over intention to burgle.
Abubakar,22, of Gishin village and Ibrahim, 25, of Gwarinpa village had admitted committing the crime and also begged the court for leniency.
The convicts were sentence on a two-count charge of joint act and attempt to commit offence.
The judge, Mr Abubakar sadiq, who convicted them, however gave them N10,000 option of fine.
Sadiq said the punishment would have been more severe if the convicts had not pleaded guilty, and saved the court the pains of prolonged prosecution.
He warned the convicts against taking to crimes after serving out their punishment.
The prosecutor, Mr Dalhatu Zannah, had told the court that one Emmanuel Sunday of Utako market, reported the case at Utako Police Station on May 10.
Zannah said that the convicts committed the offence on the same date at about 6.p.m. at Utako market
He said that the convicts intentionally attempted to burgle a customer’s car at Utako market and were caught in the act.
Zannah told the court that during police investigation and interrogation, the convicts admitted to committing the offence.
The prosecuting counsel said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 79 and 95 of the Penal Code.
