The accused conspired with others still at large and robbed one Odedele Olumuyiwa of one Samsung phone, valued at N41, 000 at knife-point.

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered the remand of an applicant, Ganiyu Alaka, in Kirikiri Prisons, after he pleaded guilty to robbing at knife-point.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, ordered that the defendant should remain behind bars, and adjourned the case until July 24 for sentencing.

The accused, whose address was not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and robbery.

The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Imhonwa, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offences at about 7.00 p.m. on March 9 at Ajah bus stop, Ajah, Lagos.

He said that the accused conspired with others still at large and robbed one Odedele Olumuyiwa of one Samsung phone, valued at N41, 000 at knife-point.

The prosecutor alleged that the complainant, who was on his way home after the day’s work, was attacked by the accused, who threatened his life with the knife.

“The complainant who was waiting for public transport was accosted by the accused, who came with a knife and snatched his phone valued at M41, 000.

“He was later apprehended by the police.”

Imhonwa said the accused was apprehended by passersby who noticed what was going on.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 295 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
