A 29-year-old unemployed man, Izu Eletuo, who allegedly raped his sister’s 17-year-old housekeeper, on Wednesday appeared before a Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court on Lagos Island.
The accused, who is charged with rape, pleaded not guilty and was granted N500, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kikelomo Ayeye, who gave the ruling, said the accused must provide two responsible sureties, who must be a civil servant nd a relation.
She directed that the case file should be duplicated and a copy sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
Earlier, Police Prosecutor Nurudeen Thomas told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 16 at about 2.15a.m. at Ilasan Community in Eti-Osa Council Area.
He said the accused allegedly raped his sister’s maid while she was away.
“The accused, who is staying with his elder sister, raped her maid when she travelled.
“Eletuo entered the girl’s room in the middle of the night and pounced on her,” he said.
The offence contravened Sections 260 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015 (revised) which stipulates life imprisonment.
She adjourned the case until June 7.
