Asian Crime News reports that Kaewkanlaya claimed in court that her Nigerian boyfriend she identified only as Uche and his older brother tricked her into carrying the drugs after she had traveled from Thailand to visit him and his family in Dubai.
When she was about to return, Kaewkanlaya continued, Uche and his brother gave her some boxes of Lindt chocolates and asked her to take the chocolates to one of their friends in Cambodia but on arrival at the Phnom Penh International Airport, the police found packages of cocaine totaling 2.5kg, hidden in the inside her luggage.
In passing the judgement on her, the Phnom Penh Municipal Court presiding judge, Heng Kessaror, said:
"The court has decided to give her a life sentence and a fine of 60 million riel to be put in the national budget.
The court orders the confiscation of the drugs seized and other drug-related material to be destroyed."
