In Abuja: 3 men docked for allegedly receiving stolen cars

The defendants’ were arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and dishonestly receiving stolen property.

Three men were on Monday arraigned in a Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly receiving stolen cars.

The defendants are: Mathew Oche, 28, of Lugbe, Abuja,  Cletus Basil, 42, of Plateau and Oladimeji Ikotun, 40, also of Plateau.

The defendants’ were arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and dishonestly receiving stolen property.

The prosecutor, Adama Musa said that on Sept. 20, one Glory Obioma, Mary Emmanuel and Akinade Ohisade, all of El-salem Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, reported the matter at Lugbe Police Station.

He said that on the same day, some gang of armed robbers broke into the complainants’ apartments at the above address and robbed them of their valuable items, which included a Lexus Jeep.

The prosecutor said that the case was later transferred to Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja.

He added that in the course of investigation, it was discovered that the defendants were receiving cars that are suspected to be stolen from a gang of armed robbers.

He said that some cars were recovered from the defendants in the process of investigation; among the cars are Audi 2008 model, Toyota Corolla and Toyota Camry.

Musa, said that the defendants know very well that those cars were forcefully collected from the owners by the gang of armed robbers.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 97 and 317 of the Penal Code.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Teribo Jim, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each and a surety each in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan. 13, for hearing.
