This worried woman needs advice

44% of Pulse Nigeria Poll voters are in agreement that a man who sexually abuses his stepdaughter should be handed over to the police.

Omowunmi, a 40-year-old woman had a child out of wedlock when she was 22 and her husband, Pius agreed to adopt the girl and treat her as his own.

He was playing the role of a good father till he allowed his hormones to get the better of him and started sleeping with her. Now the 18-year-old girl is pregnant for her mother's husband.

Read Omowunmi's story here:

"My name is Omowunmi, a 40-year-old woman with four children. Before I got married to Pius, I had a baby when I was 22 and before when he was asking me out, I told him of the child and he promised to accept her as his own.

But today, Pius has done the unthinkable by getting my child who is 18, pregnant and the shame is so much on me I feel like dying.

Pius has always been a good father to her, or so I thought before the scales were taken off my eyes. My daughter was just three when we got married and Pius never treated her differently, even when we started having our own children.

No one in our neighbourhood realized she was not his biological child as he treated her as his own. In fact, they were so close that I sometimes got jealous but I was very happy and kept thanking God for giving me a man who accepted and loved my daughter as his own.

When she gained admission into a secondary school, Pius refused to allow her to go to a boarding school, saying his baby must not leave home at such a young age.

He took her and the other kids to and from school and made sure they lacked nothing. Meanwhile, my daughter was growing into a very pretty girl with all the right curves in the right places and was the cynosure of all eyes in our area.

I lectured her on sex education and she told me everything including how men have been disturbing her and wanting to sleep with her. So I was surprised that she refused to tell me when Pius first made those ungodly moves at her.

I was in the dark till a neighour who is also a very good friend hinted me that she noticed some strange signs on my daughter, saying she could be either very ill or pregnant. I did not take my friend serious. How could my daughter get pregnant and refused to tell me?

But I also watched her closely and noticed how fat and lazy she was becoming. She threw up and spat when she thought I was not looking. I tricked her and took her to a doctor who conducted a pregnancy test on her, without telling her what the test was.

The test showed she was already three months pregnant. I felt like my world was caving in. I asked her who got her pregnant but initially, she refused to say a thing.

When we got home, I informed Pius and he was mad at her and threatened to kill her if she refused to mention the man who was responsible.

She still refused to open up until I took her to our pastor who counseled her and made her open up. When the pastor later told me, I passed out and was only revived after almost an hour.

I was aghast and refused to believe her. I invited my husband's family elders knowing how much he feared and respected them

In their presence, he confessed to being responsible for my daughter's pregnancy.

Since the discovery two weeks ago, I have been staying with my elder sister together with my daughter and other children. I still can't believe that my own husband could get my daughter pregnant.

I want to file for a divorce and keep my children as far away as possible from him.

Omowunmi."

The teaser for the day was:

What would you do if your husband gets your daughter pregnant?

How Nigeria voted:

I will divorce him immediately - 35%

I will get him arrested for sexual abuse - 44%

I will leave him and make sure he marries her - 5%

I will secretly get my daughter to terminate the baby - 19%

How would you vote here?
