InAbuja: School principal arraigned over alleged N600,000 fraud

Samuel Patrick has been brought before the courts on a two count charge of misappropriation and cheating.

A school principal has been arraigned before a Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates' court, Abuja, over fraud allegations.

The suspect, Samuel Patrick, has been accused of defrauding a school of N600,000.

Patrick who is the principal of Lukas International School, Jikwoyi , Abuja, was arraigned on Thursday, October 20, on a two-count of misappropriation and cheating.

The court heard that one Yunusa Joseph of Nyanya, Abuja, lodged a report at the Criminal Intelligence Department, Abuja on October 10.

The prosecutor, John Simon disclosed to the court that the defendant dishonestly misappropriated N600,000 which was part of the school fees for some of the students in the school between 2015 and 2016, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

According to Simon, the defendant asked some of the parents to pay the missing fees into his personal account instead of the school account. The defendant reportedly diverted the sum for his personal use.

Simon said that the offence contravened sections 308 and 322 of the Penal Code. However, Patrick pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

Presiding over the case, Senior Magistrate, Teribo Jim, ordered that the defendant is granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with a reasonable surety in like sum.

He also ordered that the sureties must have a fixed address withing the court's jurisdiction,before adjourning the case to November 9 for hearing.
