Shameful Act: Nigerian arrested in India for raping Kenyan student

A Nigerian man accused of raping a Kenyan woman in Indian says they are in love and the sex was consensual.

The police in India has arrested a 25-year old man said to be a Nigerian national, for allegedly raping a Kenyan female student in the Greater Noida, a city located in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh state.

The India Times reports that the Nigerian identified only as Obinna, a B-Tech dropout from the Sharda University, and the victim who just completed a bachelor program in Nursing from the same university recently, knew each other and also lived together for some time.

A senior police officer with the SHO Kasna Police Station, Sudhir Kumar Tyagi, said that the duo came in contact with each other in the University.

"The accused was pursuing a B.Tech program and the woman studied a program in Nursing. Obinna dropped his studies over some personal issues and started living in Sector C-5 in Greater Noida. The woman also started living with him since May 2016.

Their relationship turned sour when the woman recently got pregnant and on Thursday, September 15, 2016, she reported at the police station accusing the man of rape. The woman in her complaint said that she was drugged and raped by the accused on several occasions.

The police registered a case of rape under Section 376 of IPC and arrested the accused. During interrogation, the accused told police that they were in love with each other and had planned for marriage. The accused said that he was ready for the marriage with the girl."

"The accused's visa has expired and he was also living illegally in India. The victim has also completed her studies. They will be deported to their respective countries after all legal formalities," Tyagi said.
