Uzoamaka Chukwu: Ebonyi Governor gives brutalized girl 7 days to return

Uzoamaka Chukwu is now radiant

The Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, has given Uzoamaka Chukwu, the girl who was stripped naked and dehumanized, 7 days to return to the state or be declared wanted.

Despite the good fortunes that have smiled on Uzoamaka Chukwu, the 15-year-old orphan girl who was stripped naked, brutalized and dehumanized over allegations of sleeping with men, another twist in the story of the poor girl is playing out as the Ebonyi State Governor, Engineer Dave Umahi, has ordered that she be returned to the state within seven days or he will declare her wanted.

According to reports emanating from the state, Umahi's reasoning is that Chukwu remains a property of the state and as such, only the state has the capacity to rehabilitate her and give her the right education she needs and not her adopted mother, Rita Nnenna Anoh, who, last week, had announced her adoption of the girl with the promise to sponsor her to the highest level of education.

In a statement signed by Umahi's Chief Press Secretary, Emma Anya, only the government has the right to take care of Chukwu.

“Government is asking that wherever she is, she should come back so that we can take over her training from secondary school to university level. We will also be able to rehabilitate her.”

However, many fear for the poor girl and have read meanings into the demands for the return of the girl to the state as being sinister going by the fact that the mastermind of the torture of the girl, Ogbonnaya Ene Odii, the Coordinator of the Ohaozara Development Centre, has been hobnobbing with the Governor since he was granted bail by a court in the state.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives member Representing Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo Federal Constituency, Hon. Linus Abba Okorie, who has been fighting for justice for the girl, has called for the sack of the Odii over his role in the attack of Chukwu.

In a Facebook post on his wall, Okorie said he was surprised that the Coordinator was seen at Governor David Umahi’s country home, Uburu, last weekend, when the governor hosted stakeholders from the Ebonyi South zone of the state.

Odii was also sighted at the country home of Uzoamaka when the governor visited the family over the incident, with many people condemning the appearance of the coordinator at both locations and other locations visited by the governor and wondered why the coordinator has not been sacked by Umahi.
