Recall that in the heat of the brouhaha, top Nollywood actress, Toyin Aimakhu, had gone to the police to claim that the family of the poor lady had used her and other well meaning Nigerians to raise the money but did not intend to use it for the purpose it was meant.
The distraught family had also come out to debunk the insinuation, saying that Aimakhu and one of the organizers of the fund raising, Aramide Kasumu, were angry that the family refused to allow them handle the money as well as give them a certain percentage.
On July 29, the State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, ordered a thorough investigation into the allegations raised by Aimakhu and Kasumu and in the process, ordered that the account in which the money which contained N81 million and 100,000 dollars, raised for the lady, be frozen.
But at the conclusion of the investigations, the police has exonerated the Ahmed family of any wrong doing and has ordered that the embargo placed on the account be lifted.
Read the press release from the office of the CP:
“The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, has said that the embargo placed on the #SaveMayowa account be lifted. He said that according to their findings, the controversy was caused by misunderstandings over the modalities for dispensing and controlling the money between the Ahmed family, the Nollywood actress, Toyin Aihmaku and Life Stake Foundation.
Owoseni who confirmed this today, said the command therefore had to remove the embargo placed on the accounts, where the sum of N81million and 100,000 dollars, were raised by public spirited Nigerians, home and abroad."
