Travel agent docked over N1m fraud

The Prosecutor, Insp. Eruada Victor, told the court that the accused, on May 9, committed the offences at NAFRIC base, along Oshodi Expressway, Lagos.

A 41-year-old travel agent, Ojo Kehinde, who allegedly defrauded a man of N1million, was on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates' Court.

Kehinde, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Eruada Victor, told the court that the accused, on May 9, committed the offences at NAFRIC base, along Oshodi Expressway, Lagos.

Victor said that the accused collected N1million from one Mr Dominion Fabulous under the pretence of procuring travel documents for him.

"The accused procured fake travel documents for the complainant,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said that the accused disappeared and all efforts to locate him failed.

He said that the accused was later sighted by the complainant and was apprehended by the police.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs F.A. Azeez, granted the accused N300,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Aug. 1 for mention.
