Kidnappers in Lagos are now liable to get the death sentence after the state House of Assembly approved a bill to that effect.
The Lagos state House of Assembly has approved the death sentence for kidnappers whose victims die in their custody while anyone who kidnaps another is liable to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Punch reports that the House approved the sponsored by the Speaker of the House, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa entitled:
'A Bill for a Law to Provide for the Prohibition of the Act of Kidnapping and for Other Connected Purposes.'

According to the bill, 'any person who kidnaps, abducts, detains, captures or takes another person by any means or tricks with intent to demand ransom or do anything against his/her will, commits an offence, and liable on conviction to death sentence.'
The bill also approved 25 years imprisonment for anyone who threatens to kidnap another person through phone call, e-mail, text message or any other means of communication, while life imprisonment was approved for anyone who makes attempt to kidnap another person.

The bill approved 14 years imprisonment for anyone that provides his or her home for keeping a kidnapped person in the state.
