It was the end of the road for a notorious female pickpocket as she narrowly escaped death after she was caught stealing from a man in Abia.

A notorious female pickpocket who has been operating in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State in the past two years was given the beating and disgrace of her life after she was caught stealing from a man's pocket in broad daylight.

The lady who gave her name as Ijeoma, according to South Eastern Sun, was caught red-handed as she stole money from the pocket of a man inside a commercial tricycle popularly called Keke Napep along Enugu Road by Abiriba Street in the city in the early hours of Thursday, December 14, 2017.

According to the report, Ijeoma had successfully taken the money from the man's pocket and was about alighting from the Keke when another man who had seen her picking the victim's pocket, raised the alarm and held her before she could get down.

 

She reportedly denied picking the man's pocket but when she was searched, the money was found tucked inside her private parts.

On interrogation, she confessed that she was a commercial sex worker in Onitsha but when customers began declining due to the turn down in the economy, she had to resort to picking pockets.

She allegedly said she started the business in 2015 and had operated in Onitsha in Anambra State and Owerri in Imo State before moving to Abia to try her luck.

The suspect was lucky to be alive as she was rescued from the irate mob that was bent on lynching her when some elderly men begged that she should be handed over to the police at a nearby station in the town.
