A female lawyer based in Oyo State who allegedly stabbed her husband to death has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
There was anger and frustration as a female lawyer, Yewande Oyediran who allegedly stabbed her husband, Oyelowo Oyediran, to death in their Ibadan, Oyo State home, was sentenced to seven years imprisonment.
Punch reports that Yewande was sentenced after the charge of murder was amended to read manslaughter.
Yewande who is a state counsel with the Oyo State Department of Public Prosecution, had, on February 2, 2016, reportedly stabbed the France-based Oyelowo on the neck with a knife during an argument arising from the fact that he had a child outside wedlock.

The charge sheet read:
“That you, Yewande Oyediran, on February 2, 2016, at about 6:10 am at No. 30, Abidi Odan, Akobo area, Ibadan, in the Ibadan Magisterial District, did unlawfully cause the death of one Oyelowo Oyediran, 38, by stabbing him with a knife on the neck, which later resulted to his death.”
However, the family of the late Oyelowo has slammed the jail term given to a woman who snuffed the life out of their brother, saying she was able to get the light sentence because she is a lawyer and her family's background in the state.
An aggrieved relative who spoke on the sentence said the trial was a disgraceful outcome.
“Given the brutality, greed, and damage done by the crime itself, the family had hoped for at least 20 years to life for the murder. But they gave her just seven years.
I am sure her family had pulled some strings and the fact that she herself is a lawyer also played in her favour.
We are really sad that this is happening. Yewande killed our brother and his death also led to the death of his foster father. See how things work in Nigeria? But we leave everything to God to judge."
At the time the incident happened, Oyediran who was into property development, had been living in Europe since he got married to Yewande but came to Nigeria on a regular basis to stay with his family and had come home in December 2015, to execute a job.

Back then, a family source had said the deceased also used the opportunity to inform his wife that he had a love child with a white woman in his base, with a view to bringing back the child but that did not go down well with Yewande.
The argument generated by the revelation led to a fight and allegedly stabbed him in the neck which led to his death.
