The Judge said that the defendant should be remanded for allegedly causing body injury with a machete to the complainant, Samson Okereke.

An Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada in the FCT, on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 35-year-old man, Sunday John, in prison over the alleged theft of a motorcycle.

The Judge, Alhaji Allahassan Kusherki, also said that the defendant should be remanded for allegedly causing body injury with a machete to the complainant, Samson Okereke.

He gave the order after the defendant pleaded not guilty to the offences.

Kusherki ordered that the defendant should be remanded in prison, pending a formal application for his bail.

The Judge adjourned the case till October 25, for hearing.

The Prosecutor, Abubakar Tanko, had earlier told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 14 at Compensation Layout in Gwagwalada.

Tanko said that the matter was reported to the police by the complainant.

The defendant, who lives at Old Kutunku, conspired with two others, now at large, to snatch his motorcycle and cut his hand with a cutlass.

He said the stolen motorcycle, a red Bajaj with chassis number MD2A18A277WD54629 and engine number MUSWE7A41989, was valued at N180, 000.

The prosecutor further said that the two unknown persons rode the motorcycle to an unknown destination and all efforts to recover it proved abortive.

The offence, he said, contravened Sections 79, 242 and 287 of the Penal Code
