Charged with one count of stealing, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
For allegedly stealing aluminum windows and copper wire worth N886,000, a 34-year-old labourer
Jidda Oseni, was on Monday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Oseni, who resides at Berger on the outskirts of Lagos, is facing a charge of stealing.
Insp. Simeon Imhonwa, the Police prosecutor, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in June at Isheri North GRA, Lagos.
He alleged that the accused stole the aluminum windows and copper wire belonging to Mrs Esther Idemudia.
Imhonwa said when the complainant discovered that the accused had stolen some of the building materials at her site, she reported the case to the police, who arrested him.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders.
Oseni, however, denied the charge.
Ruling on the bail application of the accused, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until October 10 for mention.
