The traditional ruler, according to reports, was kidnapped on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, while driving with his younger brother visit a community leader identified as Baba Ade Iga, when he received a call to come to a restaurant at the CMD area regarding a land transaction.

The family of the monarch has blamed another traditional ruler in the community, Oba Jamiu Lawal as being the brain behind the abduction of Ogundare, something the Lawal ruling house has since refuted.
However, the police have said that a manhunt has been launched for the kidnappers of the Baale and all efforts would be made to rescue him as soon as possible.
The release signed by the command's Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, reads:
'Recall that on Wednesday 5th of July, 2017, Yusuf Ogundare, the Baale of Shangisha was reported to have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen who in disguise, claimed to be potential land buyers.
According to the Baale’s brother, Mohammed Adams, Baale Yusuf Ogundare was invited to CMD Guest House by some unknown men over the phone claiming that they wanted to buy a piece of land.
He stated further that while taking the men to Shangisha inside the buyer's Toyota Venza car with an unknown registration number for the inspection of the land, they discovered that the three men were armed.
Subsequently, the hoodlums diverted the journey and on getting to Domino's Pizza Junction, along the CMD Road, Shangisha, he was dropped by the roadside while his brother was taken away to an unknown destination.
Efforts to reach him on phone proved abortive as he made his way to the police station.
