Two men — Osita Nwigwe and Sunday Kingsley — who pleaded guilty to stealing two bags containing textiles valued at N2.5 million at a shop, were on Thursday in Lagos remanded in prison pending sentence.

Both Nwigwe, 27, and Kingsley, 21, whose addresses  were not provided, were arraigned for a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing at a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

When the case came up for hearing on Thursday, the accused admitted guilty and the Chief Magistrate, Mr A.A. Paul, fixed June 6 for facts and sentence.

Earlier, Police Prosecutor Christopher Okoliko told the court that the accused committed the offences at No. 16, Pears St., Surulere, on May 22 at 6.00 a.m.

He said the duo conspired and stole two bags containing textiles valued at N2.5 million, property of the complainant,  Mr Eze Basil.

‎He said the men were caught by a security guard while trying to cart away the materials.

“A security guard on duty called them as they were taking away the bags, but they started running."

“People chased them and they were arrested, while the two bags were recovered from them.”

The offences contravened Sections 280(a) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).
