The menace of Badoo Cult gang that has been operating in the Ikorodu area of the state for many years without check has dented a blow on the police.
In the past two years, residents of Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State have been reeling in the grips of a murderous cult group known as Badoo Gang.
This deadly gang has been causing havoc and terrorizing the residents especially in Imota, Ibeshe Titun, Adamo and the Itamaga areas, where they wipe out whole families in the most atrocious way possible.
Their method of killing is not only devilish, but evil, abominable, and monstrous. They are said to rape the women irrespective of their status, before using big stones to crush the heads of their victims, collecting the blood and the brains before disappearing into the thin air.
In some instances, they target the vulnerable residents who cannot provide security for their houses and kill anyone they find in the house including babies. Though many have tried to describe the gang as ritualists, others see them as nothing but serial killers whose only aim is to wipe out the residents.

The annoying thing is that these killers have been on the rampage for a long time without anything being done to bring them to book. One wonders why the police and other security agencies who are meant to the protect the people are always and conveniently absent in the areas while the Badoo gang are operating.
Some residents have fingered the traditional rulers and the Baales of these areas as giving their backings to the gang because information has it that whenever any member of the gang is arrested, the traditional rulers would mount so much pressure on the police to release them.
The State Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, came out a few days ago with a damning indictment of the Divisional Police Officers in the Ikorodu area of collecting bribes from the cultists and killers to let them off the hook.
If we are to believe the number police officer in the state, it would then be clear that the police have been turning a blind eye while the killers hold sway and have become a menace to the society.
The state government too has a dose of blame as it has been paying lip service to security in the state especially in a hotbed of hoodlums like Ikorodu. While the cult gang goes about wrecking havoc, causing sorrow and tears, the government has also turned a blind eye.
When the Badoo Gang was at its infancy level, the government and the security apparatuses in the state should have descended on it with a sledgehammer but instead, they were left alone to blossom and today, their name alone instill fear in the hearts of residents of Ikorodu and even Lagosians as a whole.
Are we talking about the mindless murder of a Deeper Life Pastor, Lucky Ebhodaghe, his wife, Margaret, and their 15-year-old son, Jonathan, who was preparing for his West African Secondary School Certificate examination, were killed in their home on Monday, April 17, 2017?
Do we mention the gruesome murder of a family of five comprising of the couple, Taofiq and Simiat Agbaje and their children, Rodiat, 10, Toyeebat, eight, who were hacked to death at their home at Adeke bus stop, Adamo, while the duo of Mardiya, 13 and on the one-year-old baby were also stabbed in another of such mindless attack?
What of a pregnant woman who was murdered alongside her family of five who also had her womb cut open and the foetus removed by the killers?
More examples abound and in all of these cases, the women and girls were raped before they were killed.
What animals do carry out such atrocities? Are they humans at all? Were they given birth to? Did their parents hold naming ceremonies for them at birth? When and how did they become so mindless?
Does it then mean that they are not living among the people and no one knows them? It is very sad that the community elders and the traditional rulers do not know these scumbags, these dregs of the earth.
While the murderers roam the communities looking for their next victims, the police, army, NSCDC, other security apparatus and the Lagos State government should rise up to the occasion and protect the residents of Ikorodu or they well be seen having failed in one of its key mandates.
