Chisom Anekwe has been laid to rest amidst tears

The widower of the young lady who died during childbirth at the Magodo Specialist Hospital has debunked the statement released by the management.

The widower of late Chisom Anekwe who died during childbirth at the Magodo Specialist Hospital, Valentine Anekwe, has debunked claims by the hospital that it was not culpable in her death.

Anekwe was responding to the statement released by the management of the hospital that his wife's death should not be blamed on them as they had done everything possible to keep her alive but their efforts were frustrated by the husband.

The hospital, after keeping mom over the death of the 28-year-old mother of two who died while giving birth to her third child, had come out with a statement where it gave an account of what happened and exonerating themselves of complicity.

However, Anekwe has also released a statement saying the hospital lied to the public and that they were responsible fo the death of his young wife due to their negligence and gross incompetence.

In a statement signed by the bereaved husband, the hospital's statement was full of lies and half truths and that contrary to reports by the hospital management that his wife refused admission despite doctors orders asking her to stay, she only returned home to get the N60,000 which the hospital demanded before she could be admitted.

He also punctured holes in the claims by the hospital that the deceased refused to take her drugs, stating that he was in the hospital and saw his wife taking her drugs.

He also revealed that the hospital sent him a medical report three days later and never mentioned that his wife was skipping treatment. Anekwe further alleged that the doctors had induced his wife without his permission, even after he had signed a consent form for surgery to commence.

Read the statement released by Valentine Anekwe on the death of his wife:

"I just want to clarify some things regarding the statement from Magodo Specialist Hospital on the unfortunate death of my wife. My wife did not decline admission as they claimed.

She was asked to deposit N60,000 before she would be admitted and she told them she was not with any money with her at that moment but the hospital insisted she had to make that deposit before admission and that was why she came back to the house to get the money.

Less than seven minutes later, Dr. Ayodeji Olamijulo (the Medical Director of the hospital) confirmed that my baby was no more. A CS form was given to me to sign, that he wanted to do a CS to get my dead baby out and I signed immediately.

I was told to deposit N300,000 for the CS but before then, I wanted to move my wife to another hospital but Dr. Olamijulo convinced me not to, saying that I will have logistic problems because of the early hour; I am sure he said that just because of the N300,000 he wanted to collect from me.

We took my wife to the theater for the CS and Dr. Olamijulo told me to go to the lab downstairs and donate blood, that my wife will need the blood immediately after the CS but by the time I came back from the lab, my wife was not in the theater.

She was in labour room after Dr. Olamijulo had induced her without any consent from me. I then rushed to his office and asked him why didn't he do the CS? He said to me that he realized that the CS will cost me more money and that he's not like other doctors who are only after money.

And this was after I was told to deposit N300,000 and I didn't argue with them that the money was an issue with me. He said that even if my wife was flown to England, the treatment she was getting at the hospital would be the same she would get in England.

He was able to convince me that my wife would be fine, that I should stop disturbing myself. He never stopped telling my wife about his experience in England and that was why she trusted him so much.

I was In the hospital on the night when drugs were given to my wife and she took the drugs while the nurse was there and Dr. Olamijulo issued a medical report after three days and how come he didn't mention that my wife didn't take her drugs? They are just telling a lot of lies.

My life has not been the same since my wife passed. Chisom was not just my wife, she was also my best friend. I have not been able to come to terms with her death and I have not been able to function properly since she died."

Anekwe has vowed to do everything possible to get justice by petitioning the Nigerian Medical Association, the Nigerian Dental Association, and other medical groups. He adds that if nothing is done by the medical associations, he would have no option but to seek justice in a court of law.
