The Prosecutor alleged that the accused stole a jar of body cream valued at N4, 000 and N75,000 cash belonging to the complainant, Mrs Victoria Jonah.
A 35-year-old gardener, Peter Effiong, who allegedly stole his employer’s body cream and N75,000 cash, was on Friday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Effiong, who lives with his boss at Oba Akinjobi Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos is standing trial on a two-count- charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The accused, according to the prosecutor, Sgt. Donjor Perezi, committed the offence with one other, still at large on Feb. 21, at about 9:00 p.m., at his residence.
Perezi alleged that the accused stole a jar of body cream valued at N4, 000 and N75,000 cash belonging to the complainant, Mrs Victoria Jonah.
“The accused brought his accomplice to the complainant house, under the guise that she had an accommodation problem.
“The duo then conspired together, broke into Jonah’s room and made away with the stolen items, hence the report."
The offence contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates a three-year imprisonment on conviction.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka, granted her bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Layinka said the sureties should be gainfully employed and should also show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until June 13, for mention.
