Fast Fingers: Man in court over alleged theft of textbooks

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum.

A 26-year-old man, Adamu Musa, who allegedly stole textbooks worth N25,000 from one Mrs Dupe Aremu, was on Friday charged before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State.

The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 23, at a bookshop located in Ajara Vetho area of Badagry.

“When he got to the shop, he didn’t see anybody, so he decided to steal three cartons of textbooks but he was caught while coming out of the shop,” he said.

He said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He adjourned the case until June 29 for further hearing.
