The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
An Ekiti State Local Government Service Commissioner, Dare Omotosho, on Wednesday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court over alleged theft of granites and stone dust worth N5.15 million.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Caleb Leranmo, the official stole the items from Primadet Company Ltd. in August 2016 and September 2016 at a quarry site.
Leranmo said that the quarry site situated on Ikere Road, Ado-Ekiti, belonged to the Inland Stone Nig. Ltd.
He submitted that the offence contravened Section 383 of the Criminal Code C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012, and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adegboye ordered that one of the sureties must be a senior civil servant.
He adjourned the case until June 9 for hearing.
