The petitioner told the court that her in-laws are forcing her husband to marry another wife.
A business woman, Sindi Nnadozia, on Monday filed a divorce petition before a Nyanya Customary Court, Abuja, on grounds of accusation of infidelity by her in-laws and lack of care.
Nnadozia, who filed the petition against the husband, Chima Andrew, said the in-laws were making life unbearable for her.
"After I had my second child, my in-laws saw the baby and started accusing me of having a relationship with another man.
“They called the baby a bastard and no resemblance between the child and their brother at all.
“They said the child I gave birth to was from an Hausa man, so they never cared about me and the child, they abandoned us to suffer,’’ she said.
She also told the court that her in-laws are forcing her husband to marry another wife.
“Because my husband does not have money, my in-laws told him that he will only get help from them, if he agrees to marry another wife, “she added.
The petitioner also accused the husband of not providing for the family.
“I feed the family, pay our house rent, children’s school fees and medical bills, with no assistance from my husband or encouragement from his people,’’ she said.
She told the court that with all her efforts and struggle to make the marriage work, all she gets in return is insult from her in-laws.
Sindi begged the court to dissolve the marriage and grant her custody of the children.
The respondent was not present in court, while the judge, Jemilu Jega ordered that the respondent be served for the last time and adjourned the case until May 17 for hearing.
