An Ikeja Magistrates court has granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
A 23-year-old man, Anthony Ayo, who allegedly stole the motorcycle of a man, who had stopped over for shopping at a supermarket, on Thursday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Ayo, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to a charge of theft.
But the Prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 30 at Area 1 Estate, Alagbado, a Lagos suburb.
Egunjobi said the complainant, Mr Fedrick Osese, parked his motorcycle along the road to buy some items at a supermarket and came out to discover that the motorcycle had disappeared.
“He saw the accused taking the motorcycle away and he shouted for help and the accused was apprehended immediately by passers-by.”
The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The section stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Osibanjo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Osibanjo adjourned the case until May 15 for mention.
