The sold baby

A young woman was arrested after she was caught selling her baby.

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has opened the lid on a child selling network in Lagos.

Officials of RRS have arrested Miss Onyinyechi Osoneye, 22, for selling her day old baby. Osoneye was arrested with six others.

The mother of the baby boy and others were arrested on May 10, 2017. This was confirmed by the Commander of RRS, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu.

According to the Vanguard, Onyinyechi Osoneye allegedly hid the pregnancy from her father with her mother's knowledge. Mrs Joy  Osoneye connived with her daughter to hide the pregnancy from her husband who doesn't approve of children out of wedlock.

Onyinyechi was admitted to Peninsula Hospital, Ikota, on Lekki-Ajah Expressway. On March 1, 2017, she delivered a bouncing baby boy with the help of a woman named Mrs Glory Ehinmi.

After delivery, Mrs Ehinmi took the baby and gave him to Mrs Prisca Okocha, 45, who happens to be her sister and the owner of a hospital in Orile. Mrs Okocha reportedly offered  Mrs Joy Osoneye N250,000 for the baby.

Mrs Okocha then went on to reach Mrs Regina Anyanwu, 59, who linked her to the eventual buyer Mrs Nwata.

During interrogation, Mrs Okocha allegedly confessed that the baby was sold for N850,000 but ended up giving  Onyinyechi Osoneye and her mother N250,000. When interrogated, Onyinyechi Osoneye denied she was pregnant.
