The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Imhonwa, told the court that the offences were committed sometime in 2012 at about 10.00 a.m. at Ojodu-Berger on the outskirts of Lagos.
He said the complainant, Mr Nelson Azzun, had sought the help of the accused, who claimed to be a clearing agent, to clear an unregistered Acura Legend car from Apapa Port and supply it to a customer.
According to the prosecutor, the accused absconded with the car and could not be reached.
“The accused was recently apprehended by the Police.”
The offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (Revised).
Section 285 prescribes three years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 312 stipulates 15 years.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, granted the accused N500, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and adjourned the case until May 14 for mention.
