Real-time professional taxi hire service, Uber, has released a statement following the murder of one of its driver, Alex Ehobosa, by a three-man robbery gang in Lagos State on Sunday, April 9, 2017.

However, the company says the deceased was not using their app when he was booked by his suspected killers which made it impossible for his movements to be tracked.

The statement as obtained by Pulse reads:

"We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn of this tragic news. We are busy reaching out to offer our support to the driver’s family.

Our thoughts and hearts go out to his family and we extend our sincerest condolences. This is a senseless act and the guilty parties must be prosecuted.

We are relieved to hear the suspects have been arrested. We will support the authorities in any way possible to assist in their investigation.

We can confirm that the driver was registered to use the Uber app, but he was not using the app during the time of the incident, therefore we have no reason to believe that this crime is related to Uber in any way."

The deceased was strangled to death by the suspects who have been arrested by the police after they had reportedly chartered his Uber taxi, a Kia Rio saloon car with the Registration number KTU 594 DM.
