A civil servant has urged an Abuja court to dissolve her marriage because her husband deceived her into marrying him.

A 32-year-old civil servant, Faith Ogu, has pleaded with a Jikwoyi Customary Court sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to annul her marriage to her husband, Joseph because he tricked her into marrying him.

Faith told the court that while she was dating her husband, he lied to her that he was a senior manager with a new generation bank and also ran a multi-million Naira business in Lagos.

But after they got married, she found out that her husband was jobless and left her to carry the family burden.

Faith told the court that her jobless husband had deceived her into believing he had a source of livelihood before their marriage, adding that she only got to know about his status as a jobless and unambitious man after they had tied the knot.

“He never told me that he had no job; instead, he kept telling me that he works with the Zenith Bank and that he has a business in Lagos that yields him millions.

It was after I got married to him that I discovered the whole truth about him. He is lazy and does not want to do anything for a living. I have been lending him money, hoping that he would pay back.

I sponsored our wedding, I even lent him money to pay my bride price. I beg this court to dissolve my marriage so that I can be free; I am tired of feeding, clothing and paying medical bills for my husband,” Faith said.

The petitioner further told the court that Joseph had told her that he had built a house somewhere in Lugbe, but that after investigating, she realized that it was false and all her efforts to make him get a job or start up a business has proved abortive.

The Presiding Judge of the court, Everyman Eleanya, however, reiterated that the respondent had not been in court since the beginning of the case and therefore ordered that a Hearing Notice be pasted in his sister’s house, while he adjourned the case the case to February 9, 2017, for the continuation of hearing.
