The accused—Ariyo, 41 and Afolabi , 25, who both reside in Abode Olunloyo area of Ibadan— are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing in an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court .
A company driver, Kabiru Ariyo, and his assistant, Yusuf Afolabi, who allegedly stole some pieces of frozen fish valued at N585, 000 were on Wednesday arraigned in Ibadan.
The accused—Ariyo, 41 and Afolabi , 25, who both reside in Abode Olunloyo area of Ibadan— are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing in an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court .
The prosecutor, Sgt. Salewa Hammed, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 29 at about 7 a.m. at Kollington Fisheries Company at Arisekola market, Bodija, Ibadan.
Hammed said the accused stole the fish, property of Killington fisheries, represented by one Folorunso Michael as the branch manager.
He said the accused were sent to Lagos to bring a lorry load of frozen fish to Ibadan.
“The accused stole some 31 cartons of fish on their way to Ibadan, making the cartoos to be underweight compared to others that their seals were not tampered with,’’ he said.
The offences, he said, contravened Section 383 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Abiona Richard, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.
She said one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused, while the other should show evidence of tax payment.
The case was adjourned till March 22 for hearing.
