A High Court sitting in Osogbo, has sentenced a 38-year-old man to death by hanging for armed robbery.

A 38-year-old man has been sentenced to death by an Osun High Court sitting in Osogbo on Thursday, January 26, 2017, for armed robbery.

The accused, Ndubusi Okonkwo,  was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery, Daily Post reports.

According to the prosecutor and state counsel in the Ministry of Justice, Mr. Abiodun Alarape, the convict was apprehended at Isida Street, Ilesa with dangerous weapons and a Mercedes Benz in his possession at about 10:30 pm on  August 5, 2014.

The court heard that the unknown vehicle had registration number AAA75C and other particulars, all of which the convict had been unable to account for.

Alapere added that the crime had been committed by the accused and some others who are still at large.

He said that the offense was contrary to sections 6(1)(a) and 5(1) of the robbery and fire arm(Special Provision) Cap R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

However, the counsel to the convict, Mr Akponta Oku, pleaded with the justice to temper her judgement with mercy.

Delivering her judgment, Justice Kudrat Akano said the convict was guilty of the two-count of conspiracy and armed robbery leveled against him, sentencing him to death by hanging.
