2016 has been a great, great year!

This year has had so many unbelievable, shocking and inspiring events. Some of these events cannot be described with words and articles.

There are photos that perfectly capture the mood and essence of some of the biggest events of 2016. Here are the top 7 gripping photos of the year.

 

1) Chibok girl reunion

One of the biggest stories of 2016 was that of some of the Chibok girls were reunited with their families. 21 girls got to be with their families again after over 2 years of being kidnapped by Boko Haram. Tears flowed when the girls saw their parents.

In one of the photos, a mother screamed when she held her daughter who was in tears. The father looked shocked, as he couldn't believe his daughter was with him once again.

 

 

2) Jumoke Orisaguna and Tine Tempah

This perhaps was the most viral photo in Nigeria for 2016. Taken by TY Bello on a cool Sunday morning in February, the life of Jumoke Orisaguna transformed from being an anonymous bread seller to a model and a figure for inspiration.

The photo took her from the streets of Lagos to board rooms where she snagged a few endorsement deals.

 

3) Aleppo Boy 

No photo captured the war in Syria more than the sad photo of a boy covered in blood and dust. The boy, 5-year-old Omran Daqneesh looked dazed as he sat in the hospital waiting for treatment of his head wounds

Daqneesh was rescued from a destroyed building in the city of Aleppo. The photo went around the world and little Omran was known as the boy from the ravaged city of Aleppo.

 

 

4) Shock in the White House as Trump wins the election

Donald Trump pulled off the biggest political shocker of the 21st century. When the results rolled in the world reeled in horror as reality dawned that the billionaire was about to become the leader of the free world.

In the White House when President Obama spoke about the election, the members of staff were dumbstruck and shell shocked by Trump's victory. The look on their faces said it all.

5) Alton Sterling protest

Baton Rouge, Louisiana was the centre of protests when a black man Alton Sterling was killed by police officers. On July 9, 2016, thousands took the streets to protest the unlawful killing.

One of the most poignant photos of the protest was the photo of a female demonstrator Ieshia Evans as she was arrested by policemen as near the headquarters of the Baton Rouge Police Department where she was protesting.

 

 

6)  Usain Bolt is not human

Usain Bolt is the greatest athlete of all time. At the Rio Olympics, the Jamaican dominated once again but it was at the semi-finals that he showed he is half human and half lightning.

In a race with his peers, Bolt should he is literally seconds ahead of them in a photo finish. The beauty of the human speed has never had a better photo.

 

7) Let love lead the way

The US election period was a bitter time with Democrats tearing down Republicans and vice versa. There was a lot of bipartisanship in the air and it made everywhere tense.

During the bitter battle, the first lady of America Michelle Obama and the former President of America George Bush showed that in the midst of the madness love can still lead the way.

During the opening of the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture at the National Mall in Washington on Sept. 24, 2016, Michelle Obama leaned in and gave George Bush a tender hug.
