Two men who attempted to murder a senior police officer by shooting him in the head have been remanded in prison in Ogun State.
For attempting to murder a policeman, two men, Jamiu Salawu and Obadimu Gbemiga, have been put on trial at an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ogun State, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports.
The suspects, according to the prosecutor, Inspector Famous Edigue, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted murder by shooting at the police officer with a gun.

Inspector Edigue told the court that the accused persons and others at large committed the offense on February 7, 2016, at about 8:00pm at Ita- Ajala Iberekodo in Abeokuta.
The prosecutor alleged that the duo attempted to kill one police officer, Inspector Olusoji Osonuga, by shooting him with a gun in the head, adding that the offense contravened sections 516 and 320 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
When the charges were read to them, the accused persons were not allowed to make a plea by the Magistrate, Mr. Babajide Ilo, who granted them bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties each in like sum.
Ilo, however, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison until they perfected their bail conditions and directed that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to obtain legal advice.

The case was thereafter, adjourned till December 16, 2016, for further hearing.
