Uber Lagos drivers protested on the Ikoyi-Lekki bridge and in front of the Uber office today, Thursday, November 17, 2016.
The drivers protested over an alleged rip-off by Uber. According to @LagosUberRide on Twitter, the drivers are angry because Uber failed to keep to its promise of doubling their payout. What the drivers got instead was a multiplication of their hours online by 1800.
One of the protesters in the video carried a placard which said: "Uber 50% promo is a scam." The same protester also complained about the transport company charging drivers 25% off every trip made.
Uber hasn't responded to the claims by the protesters yet.
On Wednesday, November 2, 2016, Uber drivers in Abuja called off their 2-day strike. They embarked on to protest Uber's alleged refusal to engage them in dialogue regarding some issues surrounding low rates and safety concerns.
While the strike was on, Uber drivers in Abuja did not complete trips to and from the airport - apparently, most of the drivers went offline resulting in a permanent surge that lasted the two-day duration of the strike.
The partner stated that the strike was called off in a bid to create the right atmosphere for Uber and the partners to each reevaluate their priorities.
Meanwhile, Little Cabs, Uber's rival in Kenya is coming to Nigeria. The company which is the love-child of East and Central Africa's biggest telco, Safaricom and Craft Silicon will be launching in Nigeria in the first quarter of 2017.
