Vine: Twitter turned down plan to save video sharing app

R.I.P Vine

There was a plan to save Vine but Twitter shut down the idea and ended up shutting down the app.

It's no longer news that Vine no longer exists.

On Friday, October 28, 2016, Twitter announced that its video sharing app would be no more.

Vine will be discontinued "in coming months," Twitter said in a Medium post. Twitter also said it will not delete any vines that have been posted - for now, at least.

We value you, your Vines, and are going to do this the right way,” the company said in the Medium post.

You’ll be able to access and download your Vines. We’ll be keeping the website online because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made.

Twitter acquired Vine, which had not launched yet, in late 2012. The app later launched in January 2013, and its trademark looping 6-second videos steadily became popular with sports highlights, visual effects, and comedy.

After the announcement was made, #RIPVine started trending on Twitter as people posted their favourite vines from over the years.

The Vine stars who made the app so popular tried saving it months ago but the idea they brought forward was turned down.

In March 2016, the viral stars who helped blow up vine proposed that "If Vine would pay all 18 of them $1.2 million each, roll out several product changes and open up a more direct line of communication, everyone in the room would agree to produce 12 pieces of monthly original content for the app, or three vines per week.

"If Vine agreed, they could theoretically generate billions of views and boost engagement on a starving app. If they said no, all the top stars on the platform would walk" according to Mic.

Well, we all know what happened. Vine is a thing of the past as it failed to catch up with other social media apps. When Instagram integrated videos to its functions it was basically over for Vine.

Now Vine belongs to the relics of our social media past such as keek.
