Vandalism: Two men bag one year jail term for stealing electric cables

Two suspects have been sentenced to one year in jail for vandalising electric cables.

Two men have been sentenced to one year in prison and 10 strokes of the cane by magistrates court 3, NDA junction in Kaduna.

The accused identified as 28-year-old, Abdullahi Aliyu and Nura Ibrahim, 23, were handed the sentence over charges of criminal conspiracy and theft of 3 core 150mm armoured cable, and 200mm belonging to Kaduna Electric, Daily Post reports.

Civil Defence prosecutor, Shamsudeen Labaran, told the court that on October 22, at about 3:00am, the suspects conspired and broke into the PC&M store in the Kaduna Electric premises Abakwa substation and stole 3 core 150mm armoured cable 5m length 200mm.

Following the judgement passed by the  Chief Magistrate, Justice Abdulaziz Ibrahim, the accused were remanded in jail to begin their sentence.

Daily Post reports that the Head, Corporate Communication of Kaduna Electric, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, stated that the company was impressed with the judgment and expressed hopes that other vandals would see this as a lesson and desist from such acts.

Abdullahi said that Kaduna Electric teamed up with the police and civil defence corps to facilitate the arrest of the vandals who have been sabotaging the company’s operations by vandalising power installations.

He added that anyone caught would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
