A worried woman fears for her marriage

Would you go ahead and marry a man who beats his own mother and sister? That is the situation Chika has found herself in.

"Dear Pulse,

My name is Chika, a 28-year-old lady working in Lagos. I have been in a relationship with Alex for five years now and we have plans to get married but I am having second thoughts about the marriage.

The reason for my skepticism came after I witnessed Alex beating up his younger sister and his mother over an argument and I wonder if I would not be a victim when we get married.

Alex is a very loving man but he is also very hot-tempered and though he has not hit me before, I still feel unsafe anytime he flares into a temper.

I was just closing from work when his younger brother called me to come to their house, saying that Alex was fighting their sister.

Worried about what could have happened, I got into my car and sped to their house and luckily, there was light traffic.

When I got into their compound, I saw a crowd of neighbours and some of his friends. When I managed to get into the house, I saw his mother and sister with bruised and bloodied faces.

Alex was nowhere to be found but his brother told me his friends had taken him to his room. I went to the room and on opening the door, I saw him seated on the bed, still fuming in anger.

I asked him what the matter was but he told me to get out of his room or he would do to me what he did to 'those witches'.

I was shocked at his words and asked his friends what happened but no one answered me, so I went to meet the mother and sister and they told me that my fiance beat them up just because they prepared his meal late when he came back from work.

As I was trying to console them, Alex barged into the sitting room and gave his sister a kick to the ribs and when his mother rose to stop him, he pushed her real hard she fell to the floor.

He was screaming that he would kill them before they killed him, calling them all sorts of names. I tried to hold him but he brushed me aside and told me to leave or he would beat me too.

I was aghast at his behaviour and even when I got home, I still baffled at what Alex did. Though he has begged and pleaded with me to forgive him, I still find it difficult to come to terms with what he did.

My friends say it is better I call off the relationship so I would not regret if we eventually get married.

What do you think?

Chika."

Dear readers, on Morning Teaser today, we ask: what would you advise Chika to do in this situation?
