The accused, who is facing charges of illicit dealing in drugs, has been ordered to be remanded in prison.

A Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti on Monday ordered a 51-year-old man, Oso Akinyele, arraigned for alleged illicit dealing in drugs, to be remanded in prison.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo ordered that the accused be remanded at the Ado Ekiti Federal prisons till Thursday, Oct. 20.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had dragged the man to the court for alleged possession of 26.5 Kilogrammes of Indian Hemp.

The prosecutor, Mr Charles Ugwuja, told the court that accused committed the offence on Sept. 28 at Iso Road, Ise-Ekiti, in Ise/Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 19 of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Uguwja told the court that “in view of the plea of the accused, I shall be praying the court for an adjournment to enable me present the facts of the case.”

He also urged the court to remand the accused in prison, alleging that he was an “unrepentant chronic illicit drug trafficker.”

The accused had pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge.

The Judge adjourned the case to Thursday for presentation of facts.

Meanwhile, the court had also ordered the remand of one Umaru Sule, 26, in NDLEA custody for alleged possession of one Kilogramme of Indian Hemp.

Justice Taiwo also adjourned the case till Thursday, for review of facts.

The accused, who was arrested on July 27, at Ijan-Ekiti, in Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti, pleaded guilty to the charge.
