The incident which was brought to public knowledge by human rights lawyer and Convener of the Coalition of Human Rights Defenders, Barrister Inibehe Effiong, allegedly happened when the men, driven by hunger, went to a farm to steal some tubers of cassava.
But luck ran out on them when they were caught by the owner of the farm who raised an alarm that attracted other residents of the community and the thieves were caught before they could escape and the jungle justice they got was not what they bargained for.
Posting the sad incident on his Twitter account, Barr. Effiong decried the fact jungle justice is meant for the poor while the rich all cry for the rule of law.
"Stripped, beaten & wounded for allegedly stealing cassava. Jungle justice for the poor, rule of law for the rich."
