Google: Tech giant starts repping Nigeria in new ad

Google's advertising board in a Leisure Mall in Surulere, Lagos

After going all USA on Google billboard ads meant for the Nigerian market, the tech giant has started putting some local content in its adverts.

So last week Pulse reported on the Google billboards that have popped up in Lagos within the last few weeks.

In case you haven't seen them these billboards which were created for the local market, they are more American than Nigerian.

One of the billboards focuses on the American reality TV show 'Love & Hip Hop' while the other is about New York B-list rapper A$AP Rocky. For an advert created for Nigeria, the billboards lean too much to American media than Nigerian media.

It now seems that Google learnt from its mistake, well sort of. In Leisure Mall in Lagos, Google advertised its search engine on an advert board. Instead of some random TV show in America, Google used Chibok girls, riding on the wave of the buzzing news.

Last week 21 Chibok girls were released by Boko Haram. As for Bob Dylan, the legendary musician won the Nobel Prize for Literature and that's better than any mundane TV show irrelevant to Nigerians and the Nigerian society.

Tinsel or Hush might not be on Google's radar just yet but it's start from the tech giant.
