Reuben Nsemoh woke up with a case of foreign accent syndrome when he started speaking Spanish fluently.

16-year-old Reuben Nsemoh who took a knock to the head during a game of football is said to have woken up from a coma speaking Spanish fluently.

Nsemoh was the goalkeeper of his team during a local match in Atlanta last month when he suffered a concussion after a player kicked him in the head. The teenager became unconscious and was rushed to the hospital.

When he woke up from his coma a few days later it was said that Nsemoh started speaking in Spanish very fluently which shocked his family and doctors.

Now Reuben Nsemoh is said to be speaking in English again and losing his fluency in Spanish.

Nsemoh seems to be the latest person to have caught the Foreign Accent Syndrome. The rare condition is said to happen when brain injuries lead to a change in speech patterns thereby creating a foreign accent.

The first known case of the condition happened in 1941 when a woman in Norway suffered injuries to the brain from shrapnel when Germans invaded the country. The woman would later have a German accent confusing her friends and neighbours.

There have been reported cases of the syndrome after the first reported case.

For Reuben Nsemoh he is itching to get back on the field even though he reveals that sometimes it is hard for him to concentrate.
