Happy Times: Oaklands Park reopens after tragedy

An amusement park in Enugu State that was closed down following the deaths of two children of the same parents has been reopened after the state government set up a committee to look into the matter.

It is now happy times as the closed Oaklands Park, one of the most prominent amusement parks in Enugu State, as its doors have been opened to the public after months of being closed by the state government following a tragedy where two children died on the premises on July 11, 2016.

The happy management of the park, in a press release sent to Pulse, said that after due diligence and investigations carried out by the government, it has been given a clean bill of health to begin operations again.

Part of the release reads:

"The staff and management of Oaklands Park, Enugu, expresses deep regret over the unfortunate accident which occurred in its facility on the 11th of July, 2016.

Following the mishap, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, constituted a committee to investigate, as well as, determine the immediate and remote cause of the accident.

The committee has concluded its investigations and made recommendations accordingly.

We wish to inform the general public that we have fully implemented these recommendations, and assure you, our dear and valued customer, that by the Grace of God, such an accident will never happen again.

We have maintained good safety standards since our inception, four years ago, and it is our determination to continue to improve on these standards. Accordingly, we have instituted additional and extensive safety protocols.

The vision of Oaklands has been to provide a secure and safe family entertainment facility for our teeming customers, and we reaffirm our resolve in maintaining this vision."

"The Oaklands Park formally reopened on Friday 9th of September, for business. The management would like to thank everyone for their support all through the ordeal and we pray for continued strength for the family that lost their loved ones."
