A mother broke down in tears after a court in Ogun State handed over the custody of her child to the Speaker of the House of Assembly who had the baby out of wedlock.
There was pandemonium and free for all fight at the premises of a Customary Court sitting at the Agbeloba area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, when the court handed over the custody of an eight-year-old child born out of wedlock by a woman named Iyabo Adedotun, to the father, Hon. Suraj Adekunbi, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly.

Adedotun, a staff of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), who was Adekunbi's mistress, had the child for the Speaker when the going was good but in the past five years, they have been having a series of issues nd she had dragged him to the court claiming that he was threatening her life over their love child.
During the hearing, the petitioner told the court that the man she had dated for 10 years and had the child for, had failed to live up to his responsibilities as a father and had also prevented her from marrying any other person, urging the court to place a retraining order so Adekunbi to stop threatening her.
But in his response through his counsel, the Speaker asked the court to grant him custody of their child, stating that Adedotun was not fit to take care of him. The three-member court panel granted his wish and ordered that the child be handed over to him.
But this did not go down well with the mother of the child as she was said to have begun shouting and insisted she was never going to give up her son. One of her colleagues who tried to protect her and prevent the court from taking the child from her was beaten up by the Speaker's security details.
