A fraudster who impersonated an official of the EFCC and obtained money from a victim has been sentenced to seven years in jail.
A man who paraded himself as an official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Gabriel Charles, has been found guilty and sentenced to seven years in prison for impersonation and obtaining by false pretence, the refined name for 419.

The anti-graft agency reported that Charles was found guilty of charges bordering on impersonation and obtaining by false pretence after he had obtained the sum of N880, 000, from a victim, Dr. Precious Gbeneol, a former Secretary, Health and Human Services Secretariat, Abuja, under the guise of helping her to close a supposed case brought against her.
Justice U. P. Kekemeke of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Apo, Abuja, found Charles guilty of the two-count charge brought against him by the EFCC amd sentenced him to six months in prison on count one and seven years on count two without an option of fine.

While the sentences are to run concurrently, Justice Kekemeke also ordered that the convict refund the N880, 000 collected to his victim.
