The storming of the Bayelsa office of Rhythm FM by angry youths was in connection to a disagreement about the capacity executive officer within the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide.

Members of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide (IYCW), have invaded the premises of Rhythm FM, Yenagoa, Bayelsa, on Thursday, June 23, 2016, disrupting an ongoing programme.

This happened on the same day the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) seized the Silverbird Galleria in Lagos, following reports of debts by its owner, Senator Ben Murray Bruce.

According to Punch, the irate youths arrived at the Bayelsa office of Rhythm FM with the tormenting sounds of gunshots.

They allegedly interrupted a live programme titled, Talk of the Town, a show hosted by Lishman Onisodemuya, an on-air personality.

Punch reported that the IYCW members forcefully entered the radio studio and “dragged out the National Mobilisation Officer of IYC, Mr. Wisdom Ikuli, and a self-acclaimed spokesman for the council, Mike Edounkimor”.

The men were violently attacked, causing them to sustain serious injuries over their body.

They were being hurled into the vehicle of the invaders when the police approached the scene. This caused them to depart quickly from the Rhythm office.

Some workers of the radio station were also robbed, as the mob allegedly used the opportunity to steal mobile phones and other valuable gadgets.
