A 17-year-old boy has committed suicide by hanging after his 12-year-old cousin rejected his marriage proposal.
A 17-year-old boy, Usman Abdu, has committed suicide by hanging himself in Bauchi State, after his 12-year-old cousin refused to accept his marriage proposal.

Daily Trust reports that Abdu took the fatal decision after the girl identified as Hajara, told him she could not marry him as she intends to continue with her education instead of being saddled with marriage at a very young age.
Adbu was certified dead at Soro Hospital in the state, after he hung himself in his hometown in Ganja ward in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident, saying that Abdu carried out the act by hanging himself on a tree at about 9am on May 13.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that victim hung himself when his cousin, a 12-year- old girl of the same address rejected his marriage proposal.
Exhibit recovered include rope which the victim used in hanging himself while the corpse has been released to his relatives for burial after postmortem examinations” Mohammed said in a statement.
